In defense of the NBA's current state

Analysts frequently complain that the quality of NBA basketball is deteriorating, usually because of the three-point shot, or a decline in fundamentals. This article, The NBA's Perfect Past and Scary Future, by Adam Mares does a good job of contextualizing those complaints and explaining how the game is evolving. One thing I would add to Mares' defense of the current state of the NBA is that the game is rewarding unselfish, balanced basketball with championships. Personally, the last two champions, the Spurs and the Warriors, move the ball, space the floor and share the scoring load in a way that should make basketball purists proud. If the league is in such decline, why is it that the last two champs play such a watchable, fundamentally sound brand of basketball?
